How to Put Hybrid on Existing Floors | Parrys Flooring Solutions
Transcript:
Hi, Ian from Parrys Flooring Solutions here.
One of the questions we get with our new HYBRID product, is that can we lay it on existing floors? The answer is ‘yes’ and ‘no’.
For the no’s; you cannot lay it on uneven surfaces like carpet, bricks or slate. When HYBRID floors are laid on uneven surfaces, there’s undue pressure on the joining systems. It could cause cracks. So it is not wise to do this.
On even surfaces like tiles, plywood, timber and vinyl floors, which are nice and flat, the answer is yes, you can lay directly over the top. A test that I ask the customers to do is get a big stick of some sort or straight edge. Go down and put the straight edge on the floor at different angles all over the floor. If it is flat wherever you go, then you’ve got an even floor. If it rocks, then we have a problem.
Just remember, if you are going to lay HYBRID on an existing floor, you have got to think of the height it will become and the height of existing doors and doorways. There is nothing worse than laying a new floor and then trying to open a door and it is just not going to open or close properly.
The last thing to consider is the underlay. All our hybrid has in-built underlay. We do sell extra underlay for those people who have apartments and they want that extra acoustic noise levels reduced. We recommend the 2mm rubber soundproof underlay.
So come into one of our Parrys Flooring Solutions stores, see our sales guys, and they’ll talk about the benefits of hybrid, discuss about your existing floor and if we can lay it directly on top.
