Does it Have to Match? | Parrys Flooring Solutions
Transcript:
Hi, Ian from Parrys Carpets here. One of the funniest things that we get from customers who come in, are people who bring in a little sample about this big of carpet, which might be at least 20 to 25 years old with a fancy design, or piece of old laminate they laid in their house 15 years ago and say, I want this exactly to match up. I want to do this patch or want this in another room.
And we go, okay, we’ll do our best. But we cannot guarantee matching the colour or exactly the same carpet.
I go a different way. I usually say to customers, why do you want to match? Why can’t you have your bathroom differently? Your kitchen different than your main bedroom? Different in your lounge room? They all have their own personalities. Just like we have different personalities in the families.
There’s a thing in flooring called the Rule of Three, that you shouldn’t have more than three types of flooring in your house. It’s not a general rule, it’s just a suggested rule.
Number one, tiles for example. Tiles in your bathrooms, your laundries, your toilets.
Number two, carpets. Soft flooring for your bedrooms, maybe your theatre. Gives you the softness, gives you the warmth, gives you the acoustic qualities for noise.
And number three, in your main areas, hard flooring. That could be hybrids, timbers, vinyl planks could be tiles as well, something which can handle the excess walking treads and main use in your house.
There are your three types of flooring. With those three types of flooring, it doesn’t mean you can’t have different coloured tiles in your bathroom versus your laundry, or different colour carpets or styles, or carpets in different bedrooms.
Everybody has different personalities. Little Johnny might be different to little Mary. She wants some softer colours versus Johnny, who wants some darker colours in his rooms. You can do that. Reflect their personalities. They don’t have to be the same.
So, enjoy being yourself. Enjoy having personalities in the house. Enjoy different flavours throughout your house.
One thing you avoid don’t put carpet in your toilet or your kitchen that’s going a little bit too far.
