Best Flooring for Stairs? | Parrys Flooring Solutions
Transcript:
In today’s world of the housing market that we have in Perth, we have a real problem when it comes to land lock and how many houses are built. There’s a lot more apartments, a lot more smaller blocks, two story places going up.
Because of that, we’re getting a lot of questions about staircases, and what’s the best option for flooring for staircases? Let’s consider budget first.
The cheapest thing to do with the staircase, paint the concrete.
Second thing is, put some carpet down.
Third thing is, start looking at your hard floors, your hybrids, your vinyl planks.
Most expensive thing to do for a staircase, is real timber. Just imagine the amount of work that’s involved to make a staircase out of timber. Carpet is like a waterfall, running down. So, there’s a cost factor depending on your budget.
What sort of flooring do you want to have? You’ve got to consider that.
Next thing to do is look at the pros and cons of each product. Carpet for example is nice and soft. You’ve got children, okay? They’re going to tumble, they’re going to fall, they’re going to land back. You’ve got older people, they might slip. If they land down, they’re going to land on carpet, it’s not going to hurt as much.
So, carpet is great. Budget is great. We talked about the softness factor there. The other thing to consider is, what type of carpet?
Well, the best carpet is either a wool or a solution dyed nylon, preferably a loop pile. When we walk, we walk like normal. When we walk on carpet, we bang our feet. This wears the carpet down further. So, consider that for your staircase.
Hard flooring, of course, hybrid and vinyl plank are great non-slip surfaces. Waterproof, easy, but they are expensive to make.
Timber, like engineered timber, solid timber, will be even more expensive because the cost of the product. But they are beautiful looking.
If you’ve got the money, invest in a really nice staircase and it will last forever. It doesn’t wear out like carpet, but there’s extra care that you must have when it comes to walking on it and consider the people in your family.
At the end of the day, look all options are there, but how much money do you want to spend?
