Hi, how are you doing? This is Ian from Parrys Carpets, and we’re here to answer some of the questions that people always ask us when they come into shop.

One of the biggest questions nowadays is, what’s the best flooring for pets?

Now look, with your pets I usually ask the question, how much does your pet control your life?

But seriously, what we don’t want is our pets ruining all our beautiful carpets by having problems with their toilet training, or to having your 50-kilo bull mastiff running around your timber floors scratching everything up when he’s doing zoomies.

What can we do to help this?

Well, look for hard flooring. Best options for hard flooring are a good quality vinyl plank or hardwood floor, which is scratch resistant and obviously stain resistant. Fantastic products for pets, especially the dogs.

Things you’ve got to consider when your dog gets older and they have a hip displacement, anything with a slippery floor like those hard floors, they’re going to slide around. It’s probably going to hurt them. That’s why you have a few rugs around just for those oldies.

For carpets, best thing for carpets, hey look, you can’t avoid during toilet training but if you want to get a solution dyed nylon carpet. These carpets are the easiest to clean. Best for stains, best for protection, that way, the solution dyed nylon.

The other thing you consider when it comes to carpets is, do I go a loophole or twist pile?

For loophole carpets the danger is when your pet’s claws get caught in it. For dogs, claws are blunt. Not usually going to have a problem, but for cats with a very fine claw, they can, if they’re one of these scratchers, going to ruin your carpet, especially pulling the loops out.

At the end of the day look, could be you, your dirty feet from the garden, could be your wife who doesn’t know, or your partner who doesn’t know how to clean properly. Could be your children making a mess. Don’t blame the pets.
