Parrys HOT Tip This Summer
PREDICTION: This summer is going to be HOT!
While we’re not weather experts at Parrys, you don’t need a degree in meteorology to work out that Perth is in for its usual run of hot days and nights come summer!
When it comes to keeping cool in the hottest months of the year, most Australian families turn their attention to air-conditioning and fans. Fewer people think about the best flooring to help bring down the heat in their home but, as we’re flooring experts, we understand how much of a part it can play in staying cool.

The truth is, hard floors don’t hold heat and are the coolest to walk on and live with, making them a clear winner for houses in a climate like Perth where it’s generally that little bit on the warmer side all year round. That said, we still believe carpet is better in theatre rooms – for sound purposes – and in bedrooms because of the warmth they offer throughout the winter months.

Buuuuut, we understand when the temperatures start peaking in mid-January / February – or when your air-conditioning has packed it in – the last thing you’re worried about is keeping warm in winter! If your home is one of those where it’s hard to find even a hint of cool on those sweltering 30 degree nights (and whose isn’t!), upping the amount of hard flooring you have is a great idea. In fact, in a perfect world, we would lay hardwood flooring throughout the house – including in all bedrooms. Then, come winter, you could roll out oversized rugs in bedrooms and in central hubs, like lounges, for insulation and extra warmth.

The spaces in our homes where we congregate are the ideal places to embrace hard flooring. As more of us gather in an area, the temperature is going to rise further, so leaning towards flooring that can bring the heat down a notch in these spaces is always a priority. It’s not just about comfort either – it can help keep your cooling costs down and, with electricity prices on the up, it’s critical to consider this factor.
So, what type of flooring delivers in the keeping cool stakes? At Parrys, we love Luxury Vinyl. It’s waterproof and resistant to scratches and scuffs, making it a great choice, especially for high traffic areas and homes with pets and kids! It also looks fabulous, is easy to look after and is highly durable.
Another excellent option is Hybrid Flooring. It’s cost-effective and easy to use in new homes and is ideal for renovations too. Hybrid Flooring provides that cooler feeling everybody is searching for in hot weather, is reliant, and boasts a beautiful appearance, ensuring it will be the envy of guests dropping in to your house for that summer Sunday barbecue.

At Parrys, we know that every abode is different and everybody’s style is different – and we know how crucial it is that your flooring caters to your needs all year round. So, come talk to us; we predict we’ll find the perfect flooring solution for your home.
