Speaker 1: Hi. How are you doing? This is Ian from Parry’s Flooring Solutions. People still come in to buy carpet, which is absolutely wonderful for our industry. But carpet trends have changed over the last 10 to 20 years. Back in the days when grandma was around, carpet was laid in the entry in the lounge rooms, in the dining rooms, in the formal areas, the hallways, all the bedrooms. The only places it wasn’t laid was kitchen and wet areas.

Today things have changed. Most people are looking for hard flooring, especially in the climate of Western Australia. Okay, but carpet still has a purpose, for bedrooms especially.

So what is the latest trends for carpeted bedrooms? Well, obviously we look at the fabric of the carpet, which is best suited for the type of people living in those bedrooms.

We look at the actual cut of the carpet. Is it a cut pile or textured loop? Nowadays it’s hugely textured loops. Look at all the renovation shows on TV right now, they’re actually looking at loop pile carpets, which give texture, give distinct patterns, and something special in a bedroom.

The third thing we look at is the type of underlays we use in those bedrooms. You don’t need a thick carpet to be luxurious. You can have a standard carpet with a thicker underlay.

The fourth thing we look at, and what people are seeing in trends for bedroom carpets, is the nature inspired colours. We’re looking at warm beiges, we’re looking at misty greys, we’re looking at earthy greens. Give that grounded feel to bedrooms, make bedrooms open up, look bigger.

Okay. And the fifth thing, and this is going to surprise a lot of people. They’re looking at lineal sort of style carpets, dare I say, back from the 1980s.

The sisal carpets gives the extra length and width to a bedroom. So these are the trends people are looking for nowadays for bedrooms in their carpet.
